Orthodontics for children
The American Association of Orthodontists suggest that a child should have orthodontic evaluation at 6-7 years of age. At that age, we normally just observe your child during growth and transition of teeth, and we make sure that everything is developing normally. There are some dental or skeletal issues that need to be identified and treated early such as underbites, crossbite and crowded or severly misplaced teeth.
Early intervention may avoid the need for extractions of permanent teeth, to prevent damage to the teeth and surrounding tissues, to guide jaw growth, create more space for crowded teeth and to prevent facial assymetries and jaw joint pain.
